Avon Skin So Soft Insect Mosquito Repellent

Written by Gail Reynolds on November 24, 2014

Avon Skin so Soft dry oil spray, which you might also know as Woodland fresh, is a Best Seller and one that you won't want to be without during the summer and whilst on holiday. The oil is totally dry and does not leave any marks or smudges on your clothes. It helps soften your skin and is best applied after a bath or shower whilst the skin is slightly damp as this locks in the moisture. There is a very pleasant woody smell and the oil is clear. If you want a fresh 'just stepped out of the shower' smell this is pretty close. It contains citronella which is a lemon smell and which helps to repel insects. The spray comes in 150ml and has a pump dispenser.

Avon Skin So Soft

Nourishes all skin types. Spray on damp skin to lock in essential moisture, light non-greasy formula. A great alternative to insect repellent.

The Royal Marines use Avon Skin So Soft!

"THEY are famed for their ability to operate at sea, in the jungle or in the Arctic wastes and freezing cold of Norway. Battles throughout the centuries have won the Royal Marine Commandos a reputation as one of the world's elite fighting forces.

And as the last line of security in guarding Britain's nuclear weapons, they are pivotal to the Defence of the Realm.

But it appears that on the home front our toughest soldiers are prepared to pander to their softer side to combat Scotland's most persistent foe: the midge.

For years the Marines at Faslane who guard nuclear missiles and the submarines capable of firing them have looked for an answer. They've finally found it in a brand of women's skin cream.

Instead of using mosquito repellent issued by their unit, soldiers and workers at the base are buying Avon body lotion to repel midges on the West Coast. The company traditionally associated with images of well-dressed women selling cosmetics door-to-door is experiencing an unexpected boom thanks to the pesky insect. Neil Smith, a Royal Navy spokesman at HMS Clyde, near Helensburgh, said: "It's not official kit but nothing works better and the Marines are buying it themselves because the midges are so bad up there."

The wonder cure is a 5 bottle of dry oil body spray from Avon's Skin So Soft range. The midge problem at the base where Trident missiles and Vanguard submarines are stationed is so bad it recently installed a MidgeEater machine at the front gate. Workers at the camp can often be seen wearing midge nets on their heads.

Royal Marines are also taking the skin cream on field training exercises outside the base. But although it is the answer to their prayers, they have not been able to buy it at the local chemist.

Smith said: "There has been a lot of group buying because you can only get the stuff from Avon. Some buy it online and others are ordering it through local Avon ladies."

A stores sergeant at 45 Commando, based at Arbroath, said: "There is nothing effeminate about it. The reason the Nods [Marines] are using it is because it is good kit. It works. It's as simple as that."

It is thought that the oily base of the body spray is the ingredient that repels midges. Made with shea butter and vitamins, Avon's packaging boasts that it will "ensure your skin feels velvety soft, hour after hour"."

Avon insect repellent: fight the bite!

"Just back from Antigua. Used your stuff and it was tremendous. No bites!!! Everyone else at the resort - including my missus was bitten alive. (She decided to stick with deet.)"

Dangerous DEET

Most insect repellants out there are loaded with toxic chemicals, including the pesticide DEET, which is so poisonous that even the Environmental Protection Agency says you should wash it off your skin when you return indoors, avoid breathing it in and not spray it directly on your face. Think about it--if this chemical can kill mosquitoes, it can likely do some harm to other life forms too.

Avon Skin So Soft - the safest & nicest way to repel midges

Avon says that The Original Dry Oil Spray is not an insect repellent, but a great alternative to one. This means there is no dangerous DEET toxic chemicals / pesticides included and it is meant to leave your skin feeling amazing. Avon have achieved a product worthy of repelling mozzies and doing what it says on the tin without even realising it! It repels insects, leaves your skin soft, non - greasy product and smells absolutely fantastic. What more could you ask for?

Customer review #2

I recently had Avon's Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray recommended to me as I was going on holiday. I was initially wary of spraying an oil on myself but found it to be a good after sun, brilliant moisturiser, which so far to date has stopped me peeling, and saved me being bitten my mosquitoes when I am normally bitten alive! It really is good value for money and I cannot speak highly enough of it. Try, you won't be disappointed and I can't say that about many products.

"We know that film crews use it a lot when they are up in Scotland and Mel Gibson used it when he was making Braveheart here. We're very pleased that it's proving so popular."

Burning citronella will help to deter midges, but those in the know, including the Royal Marines guarding the nuclear base at Faslane on Scotland's west coast, call on an unexpected source for all their midge needs: Avon.

The cosmetic company's Skin So Soft range does more than guarantee velvety-soft upper arms after a bath: it's also a powerful midge-repellent. The Soft & Fresh Dry Oil Body Spray provides an oily protective layer so effective that the soldiers buy it in bulk.

A Holiday Essential for any Outdoor Pursuits

This is an exceptionally good insect and 'mozzy' repellent. It has become infamous through word of mouth. We personally sell in excess of 100 bottles a week.

If you like to avoid being bitten whilst gardening or walking, or on your holidays.

Some of my customers even use it on their pets, dogs, cats, horses etc. to keep the flies away.

If you are using Avon Skin So Soft on your horse, you should dilute the spray 50:50 so you do not accidentally burn your horse! Horse owners reccommend and say it's great for keeping the flies away. One customer says, "I too use this product on my horse who suffers with sweet itch, it is an absolute life saver!"

"My daughter is the only member of our family with a mosquito problem. We discovered SSS from a friend who plays golf in Florida. We took SSS to Thailand with us in Dec. 2004 and all was well, no bites at all. We then lost all our possessions in the Tsunami in Phuket and the SSS went as well - Jennifer was eaten alive after that. SSS is excellent! All the best. Steve."
